The Presonus Eris 4.5 Monitors are something that I decided to pick up when starting my small home recording studio set up.
After getting to use them for about a month, I figured its a good idea to put out my thoughts on them and my experiences (good or bad)
I'll make it simple for any readers glancing by.
You probably arent looking for these unless you are on the tightest of budgets, there are cheaper(and probably smaller) monitors out there, but id have to say for the price, are a really great option. Rest assured, if you have a Focusrite Scarlett interface for your desktop and need some little monitors to go with it.
Some of the plus sides to the Eris 4.5
1: The Left speaker acts at the power for both of the monitors, so less electrical plug space taken.
2: it does have some red/blue cables should you need something simple to start out with on your rig.
3: They are a pair (so no worrying about paying for another single monitor to go along with the first)
4: For the little guy who doesn't give a crap about pro audio mixing and the like, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL for listening to music on. Good stuff.
5: They are indeed inexpensive and affordable, and they sound great for what you buy, they're solidly constructed
Downsides:
1: I'm not a big fan of this, despite it being a very infinitesimal issue (and simply an opinion at that) The adhesive based foam grips to slap on to the bottom of the monitors so they don't move.
I wouldn't waste time using them, i never find it a good idea to use any of that type of thing on a product, with the idea that in 2 weeks it might just peel off and your left with an awful dust collecting residue that makes you look like you dont care about your studio cleanliness.
I ended up using little circular kitchen rubber dish pads for mine, and its perfect!
2: Does not come with quarter inch monitor cables, it would probably be to much to ask for that, considering the price though, so should you be in the market for any cables in the box (other than the aforementioned left right red white cables) you'll need to add some to the shopping cart.
(if you're interested, i did purchase from sweet water and got some Pro co 3 foot cables, which my sales engineer strong armed me into, (and quite rudely)
3(good/bad): SOUND, im not going to get to much into this, cause for my ears its kind of a bullcrap piece information to get into, esspecially because no one reading this is looking into making a world record breaking studio to brag to our friends about.
The sound is okay, its great for instrument playback, great for tracking, and earing little details that you didnt notice before your brand new set of studio monitors.
Though there is some downsides to it, but your buying a relatively inexpensive set up here.
It starts to fizz out in the louder and heavier sound frequencies, and its not good at producing the power and volume that you might expect from KRK, or something of that sort. (this particularly shows on a big stereo piano pounding extravaganza at medium volume)
It gives you the feeling that they might explode if you push the volume to much (which might very well be the case, dont be a moron with your sound equipment.stupid.)
Not a whole lot going on in the bass, but its really quite nice to listen to.
But it gets the job done, and does nicely at it, and sits comfortably at its mantelpiece of 'Dayum, im cheap, and i make this look good.' If you guys get me.
A 4 out of 5 for people like me, getting started.
(Just do it, dont let your dreams be dreams, buy this, and start making music NOW)
And for those unlike myself, with more money to spend.
A 3 out of 5 ( Look elsewhere, you're probably richer than us anyways)
